P2P fraud rarely depends on one sophisticated technical attack. More often, a bad actor combines social pressure with gaps in a transaction process: a fake alert creates urgency, a cropped screenshot hides the sender, a last-minute account swap redirects funds, or an unexplained third party makes a payment that is difficult to trace. The strongest defence is therefore not a single warning banner. It is an architecture that makes important actions attributable, staged and reviewable.

Fake payment evidence targets the moment when a recipient is expected to confirm. An image can be edited, an SMS can be spoofed and a pending transfer can later fail. NairaFX’s workflow places confirmation after independent account checking. The recipient should verify the actual ledger credit, correct currency and expected amount before marking funds as cleared.

Account substitution attacks try to move settlement outside the protected record. A fraudster may claim that the original account is unavailable and send a replacement through chat, phone or another application. Saved and verified receiving accounts reduce ambiguity by connecting the listing and reservation to an eligible account. If the protected instruction and a message conflict, the trade should stop rather than follow the new instruction.

Data-harvesting attempts seek information that is never required to complete a marketplace trade. No legitimate counterparty needs a password, OTP, card PIN or full online-banking credential. Sensitive account information should be revealed only through the appropriate protected workflow and only to the party who requires it for settlement.

Third-party payments and refund manipulation create another trap. After sending questionable funds, a bad actor may demand a refund to a different destination, turning the member into an unwitting transfer path. The safe response is to preserve the money and record, avoid redirection and request protected review.

Architecture cannot replace judgment, but it can make safe behaviour easier: verified identities, route-compatible accounts, locked reservations, sequenced trade stages, protected documents, immutable events and integrity review all reduce opportunities for quiet manipulation. Members complete the defence by slowing down under pressure, reading the current stage, independently confirming funds and reporting anomalies before money moves again.
