Receiving-Account Verification Explained

Account verification pathway checking ownership, currency, country and payment-route compatibility.
Account verification pathway checking ownership, currency, country and payment-route compatibility.

A saved receiving account is more than a nickname and account number. NairaFX uses its verified attributes to determine which listings and settlement routes can safely present that account.

What is being checked

Review can consider the account holder, bank or provider, masked number or identifier, currency, country and payment route. Supporting evidence should connect the account to the member or to an authorised client relationship.

Different attributes answer different questions. Ownership does not prove route compatibility, and a matching currency does not prove the account is located in the expected country.

Why account types cannot be mixed

A Nigerian USD domiciliary account can receive supported local FX routes and, with complete instructions, an international transfer. A US bank account may use ACH or wire. Zelle and Cash App depend on their own eligible identifiers.

Filtering protects both sides by preventing an account from appearing simply because its currency is USD. The route and location must also fit.

Business and client accounts

Eligible verified businesses may be able to manage accounts for authorised clients. The client relationship should be created through the approved workflow and remain auditable. Deauthorising a client should stop future use without erasing historical records attached to completed trades.

A business should never describe an unrelated third-party account as its own receiving account.

Keeping verification current

If an account changes, add or update it through the account workflow rather than typing replacement details in a trade message. Material edits can require renewed review because previous evidence related to different information.

When no account appears in a listing dropdown, first check currency, location, route and verification status. Do not work around the filter with an incompatible account.

Verification is a set of matching checks

Owner+Currency+Country+Account type+Payment route→Eligible use

An account can pass one check and fail another. A USD account may have the correct currency but the wrong country or route. A bank account may belong to the member but lack the international instructions required for SWIFT. Filtering uses the combined attributes so that a convenient label does not override the account’s real function.

Examples of correct matching

  • A verified Nigerian USD domiciliary account can appear for supported local USD inflow or cash deposit.
  • The same account may support international USD transfer when its verified SWIFT and correspondent instructions are complete.
  • A verified US account configured for wire should not automatically appear for Zelle.
  • A Zelle profile must be verified for that route; “Bank: Zelle” typed into a nickname is not enough.
  • A Naira account belongs on the NGN settlement leg, not as a substitute for the FX account.

Typical verification workflow

  1. Add the account through Receiving Accounts and select the real currency, country and route.
  2. Enter the holder and institution details accurately.
  3. Supply the required supporting evidence through the approved process.
  4. Wait for review rather than using typed details in a private message.
  5. After approval, confirm that the account appears only in compatible listing flows.
  6. Request an update or renewed review when material information changes.

Business and authorised-client example

A verified business acting for a client should first create the client relationship through the authorised workflow. The receiving account must be linked to that client and supported by the required authority. If the client is later deauthorised, the account should become unavailable for new listings while remaining visible in historical audit records. Deleting history would weaken accountability.

Why an account dropdown can be empty

The selected listing currency may not match the account currency; Local FX may require a Nigerian domiciliary account while the saved account is in the United States; Zelle may be selected while the metadata says US wire; or verification may be pending, expired or affected by a material edit. Return to the account record and correct the cause. Do not choose an unrelated account simply to continue.

Changes that can require review

A new account number, holder, bank, country, currency or payment route changes the facts previously checked. International routing instructions can also change. Update the saved record and allow the current verification controls to apply instead of pasting replacement instructions into an active trade.

Privacy and safe disclosure

Marketplace cards should reveal only the context needed before reservation. Full protected instructions should appear at the appropriate transaction stage. Never publish passwords, OTPs, PINs or complete online-banking access. Verification confirms account attributes; it does not require giving a counterparty control of the account.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my USD account not appear for Zelle?

Currency alone is insufficient; the account must be verified and configured for the Zelle route.

Can editing an account trigger another review?

Yes. Material changes can affect the facts previously verified.

Can deauthorised client accounts remain in old records?

They should remain for audit history while becoming unavailable for new transactions.

Possible review outcomes

An account may be approved, remain pending, be returned for correction, or be rejected when evidence and entered details cannot be reconciled. A rejected route does not necessarily mean the underlying bank account is invalid; it may mean that the requested NairaFX use was not established.

Respond by correcting factual errors or supplying the permitted evidence. Do not repeatedly submit different descriptions for the same account to bypass the result. If the holder, country or route was selected incorrectly, update it transparently.

Periodic account hygiene

Review saved accounts before creating a listing. Remove an account from future use when it is closed, compromised or no longer authorised, while preserving historical trade references. Check that SWIFT, routing and beneficiary information remains current and that the masked identifier still distinguishes the intended account.

Verification and transaction safety

Approval reduces account ambiguity but does not prove that a future payment cleared or that every counterparty instruction is safe. Continue to follow the Trade Room sequence, confirm actual credits and report any attempt to replace verified details.

Sources and rate context

NairaFX marketplace rates are not official CBN rates. NairaFX rates reflect member listings and the terms recorded for a specific marketplace transaction. Central Bank of Nigeria NFEM references describe the official market benchmark and may differ by time, source, route, amount and transaction conditions.

Bank procedures and regulatory requirements can change. Confirm current requirements with the relevant bank or regulator before acting.
